The seven big things a Mutual Aid Group must have to succeed are:

  1. A common-interest work to do, meaning sharing a common cause.
  2. A place to meet weekly to discuss progress  report, reflect on results achieved, and hold regular training.
  3. A Mutual Aid Group facilitator who provides on-site supervision visits to monitor the Mutual Aid Group work progress and gives weekly training to their members.
  4. Reciprocity, meaning that one group member will return a positive action in response to a positive action received from another.
  5. Integrity, meaning being completely honest in all aspects of life and doing the right thing wherever one may be, no matter who is watching, and even when no one is watching.
  6. Solidarity, meaning having a social bond of mutual commitment and dependence within a group sharing a common cause, with the added awareness and willingness to assume and share the benefits and the risks fully and entirely.
  7. Respect, meaning to value another person, both their words and actions, even if we don't approve or share everything they say or do. Often, one shows respect by caring for things, both material and immaterial.
